REMOTE LEARNING
Middle School Overview (6 - 8)
Although the focus of the Remote Program at MMS is to deliver instruction that advances learning for all students, it also includes opportunities for optimizing connections within the school community: teacher/stu- dent, student/student, parent/school. Clear guidelines and expectations and concise, timely communication are essential in meeting the academic and social/emotional needs of each Middlesex student. To that end, we analyzed the content and structure of the remote academic program we implemented in March, and will continue to develop the following components:
• Timelines for work completion, check-ins, extra-help, and evaluation posted on team websites
• Clearly stated learning goals and instruction that includes scaffolded activities leading to mastery of knowledge and skills
• Enhanced live learning with the use of technology tools
• Collaboration with peers on projects and group work
• Targeted feedback to improve student work and encourage self-advocacy
• Varied assessments by which students can demonstrate understanding
In order to ensure a smooth transition to remote learning, we have planned the following:
Parent Engagement 1. Orientation: Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, we will hold grade level parent orientation meetings to explain the schedule, grading procedures, the technology, and expectations of all stakeholders, as well as at-home strategies that best support students. 2. Grade Level Coffees: The Administrative Team, School Counselors, and Team Leaders will schedule monthly Zoom coffees to answer parent questions and respond to concerns. 3. Special Education Coffees: The Administrative Team, Department Coordinator, and Service Providers will schedule monthly Zoom coffees to answer questions and present information regarding the Remote Special Education Program. 4. School Counselor Availability: Parents who have specific concerns about student progress can schedule appointments or phone calls with the Counselors.
