HYBRID LEARNING
The District will reopen for students on September 3 with a Hybrid Plan. The state of Connecticut requires that all local Districts develop a Hybrid Learning Plan to reduce day-to-day contact with multiple individuals and increase building cleaning and sanitization. The District will open with a Hybrid Plan with the intent for a full In-Person Learning beginning September 29. The need for transitioning back to a Hybrid Model when operating In-Person would result from a moderate virus spread and an increase in levels of COVID-19 transmission. Metrics have been provided by the Con- necticut Department of Public Health to inform these decisions in partnership with local health officials. The Elementary Hybrid Plan welcomes students with surnames A-K on Monday and Wednesday of each week and students with surnames L-Z on Tuesday and Thursday. When students are not physically present in school, they are participating in both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities throughout the day. All students and staff will engage in remote learning from home on Fridays to increase building cleaning and sanitization practices. The overall population of the building will be reduced by approximately fifty percent, allowing for a signif- icant reduction in students coming into contact with others outside of their cohort. Fewer students in the building will allow for increased social distancing. Monday through Thursday, students will participate in grade level learning and specials at home or in school. Lessons and activities will meaningfully connect from learning in school to remote learning. Practice, review, reinforcement and enrichment activities of skills and strategies learned from previous lessons will take place on Fridays. As students engage in this work, teachers will provide necessary instruction in the morning. In the afternoon, teachers will participate in professional development. An overview of the components included in the elementary Hybrid Learning plan can be found here. The Middlesex Middle School Hybrid Plan functions on an alphabetical split, A-K and M-Z similar to the elementary schools. The schedule on Friday is both remote and shortened to allow for teacher collaboration and professional learning as well as increased building cleaning and sanitization. When students are learning from home, they are participating through Zoom as a full class or in breakout sessions, and may also work independently when the class is doing the same. Most student assessments will take place during in-person attendance.
